Million Dollar Baked Ziti

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (28 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 can (15 ounces) ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and Italian sausage; cook until browned.
  4. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  5. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil; simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. In a large bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 2 cups of mozzarella, Parmesan, eggs, salt, and pepper.
  7. In a large baking dish, layer half of the ziti, half of the meat sauce, and half of the ricotta mixture. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
  8. Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  9. Bake for 30-40 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
  10. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
