These homemade soft pretzels are easy to make and deliciously satisfying, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • coarse salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it’s foamy.
  2. Add the flour to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Dissolve the baking soda in 2 cups of hot water.
  7. Shape the dough into pretzels and dip each one into the baking soda solution.
  8. Place the pretzels on the prepared baking sheets and brush with beaten egg.
  9. Sprinkle with coarse salt.
  10. Bake for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add melted butter on top after baking.
  • Feel free to experiment with toppings like cheese or garlic salt.
