Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  3. Add flour and salt to the mixture and knead until smooth.
  4. Divide the dough into 8 pieces, roll each into a long rope, and shape into pretzels.
  5. Boil water and add baking soda. Dip each pretzel in the water for about 30 seconds.
  6. Place the pretzels on a baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  7. Bake for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
