French Onion Soup Mac & Cheese

Indulge in the rich flavors of French onion soup blended with creamy mac and cheese, topped with crispy turkey bacon for a delicious twist.

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices turkey bacon, chopped
  • 2 cups shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions and drain.
  2. In a large pot, cook the turkey bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, add butter and sliced onions, and cook until onions are caramelized.
  4. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Then, gradually whisk in beef broth.
  5. Add garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Stir in the cheeses until melted and combined.
  7. Add the cooked macaroni and mix well.
  8. Top with crispy turkey bacon and serve.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, use vegetable broth and omit turkey bacon.
  • Feel free to add more cheese for extra creaminess.
